OMG OMG OMG I am freaking out, this morning I saw the application for the Erasmus for next year on my university’s website, I think I can finally apply! Last year I didn’t meet the requirements… As soon as I saw it I started freaking out luckily I was alone xD I almost had an axiety attack and…
:D How exciting! I do have a couple pointers for you - if you don’t have a high level of German, as determined by language tests, then you probably shouldn’t apply for Germany. German universities don’t teach in English for undergraduate programs, so you must be able to prove you know German. However, if you look at their language requirements and think you can do it, I’d say definitely go for it! I don’t have anything else to say about that, other than I looked at both those universities for my husband before realising he wouldn’t meet the language req’s. But maybe that’s not a consideration with Erasmus? I’m not too sure about all the details…
The only other thing I’d say is that Denmark, to me, seems fairly cheap. One page recommended 800euros a month for a student to cover living expenses each month, which (after changing that over to pounds/dollars so I have a reference, lol) is cheap to me. I believe you can also apply to Erasmus for a grant to help cover living expenses? That could be something to look into, regardless of where you decide to go.
Hope this helps a little, and good luck with your application! :D
Thanks for the advices! My problem with German is exactly that, if they don’t teach classes in english is going to be quite difficult (but I heard that sometimes professors are quite accomodating with erasmus student, for example they let you take the exam in english and give you english books to study, don’t know if it’s true for everyone and everywhere), learning enough german to live there is not impossible, I have studied it for five years so I don’t start from scratch, but being able to follow classes in German is a whole other issue, but I study math and I keep telling myself that it’s the same everywhere xD
I’ll ask the professor who is responsible for this and see what she tells me, I think the language requirement is a level B1 certification, which could be doable but I don’t know if there’s a deadline or I just have to have done it before leaving (so september or even beginning of 2013)
EDIT, because I forgot something xD
I dont’ think 800€/month is that cheap, as far as I know Berlin would be cheaper… For Erasmus you have some sort of scholarship by the EU and your own university and it should be around 200-250€/month, it’s not much but it’s better than nothing, I’m quite lucky because I think my parents could help me and I also have saved some, but I still can’t spend a lot of money so I have to look for the cheaper options
Actually places like Romania, Poland or Hungary would be a lot cheaper, I think you could live easily with 500€ per month, and I’ll take them into consideration but Germany is still my first choice ;)
